Cast: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway
Director: David Frankel
Genre: Drama
This seems like a pretty huge job to word this movie, since it deals with so many facets of emotions within our work and personal life, well I am going to try anyway. The movie stars iconic duo Meryl and Anne, done a remarkable job with the task in their hands. Though it is a drama, but it will never make you feel distance from your emotions in terms of living your life. As all of us are chasing something in our career and finding the right balance in our personal lives, the movie beautifully threads the story around the work-life balance. You may think what it even a thing in pre internet era (before social media) but believe me it is always has been a difficult job to find the right balance between work and life, when you are really ambitious about what you do.
Story….
It is a story of an editor in a very famous fashion magazine in the US, how she has dominated her work field despite of all the challenges being a woman and how she has become emotionless and career obsessed. She is very respected in fashion world and even more feared by her co-workers. That is where a girl who is mart but does not have any fashion sense or fashion background is hired as her assistant and the story elevates!
The journey of an intern (Anne) is well perceived by the filmmaker and made us an integral part of her story because she portrays each one of us. Her attitude towards her job and then realization of achieving something and making a lot of pathetic decisions to make herself feel right is what most of us do.
More often than not, the characters feel so real that such people do exist, I liked the fact that they do but I am sure not everyone will share my thought. And that brings out the beauty of this movie, it will make you hate the characters, even feel pity for some. But you should engage in this movie to take the best outcome with you after watching it.
My POV:
I don’t have a lot to share because the story basically covers what I do day to day, and it does not make me feel overwhelmed in any aspect. Although, I do like the climax of the movie and how everything settles to be great for everyone, well not for everyone but most of them. And that’s what I would like to see happen to each one of us, we should all reach to our destinations with all the ups and downs and guilt and sorrows and regrets and mistakes so that when we see behind, we should be able to say that we lived, that we made mistake sand we overcame them, and that what I have achieved is mine.
Finally I feel like the movie lacks the depth of writing in certain scenes which deals with the supporting cast of the movie, which in a way makes you feel that the movie is black and white, right or wrong kind of a movie, but I will give it a benefit of doubt since it a drama and commercial movie which focuses solely of protagonist’s lives.
Coming back to the movie, it has a great storyline, wonderful acting and over the top of it, it has a really great climax, so yes, please watch this movie, rate it yourself and share your thoughts ADIOS!
I haven't watched the movie yet, but you have piqued my interest so will give it a go. it has Anne Hathaway so that's a plus. Enjoyed reading your thoughts on it. 👍
